This whole cooking rice as pasta craze is just everywhere lately! I remember Sarah Molten on the Food Network used to say she could not cook rice the rice way, she cooked it like pasta. As a professional chef, I always par-cooked all grains that were for a la carte service like pasta and that was really the only way I ever saw it done in any professional kitchen I worked. Now, at home, I cook rice like rice. Okay, more information than you ever wanted to know; I just think it is interesting that it is so very popular right now. I think it is because of that How to Eat Supper cook book. I love that a new method for cooking rice is life changing. Awesome.

first, i am not a wine drinker... i only like that wine that really isn't wine. merrit makes 2 yummy sweet wines that would probably make you cringe. i can't remember the names right now... second, i never knew you could peel asparagus... huh! third, i'm embarassed to say that th eony rice we eat at my house is rice a roni. in conclusion, i am a list-er too! i have noticed that clay will sometimes tell me "first... second... third..." apple? right under the tree!!!

That Malbec was a great choice with steak! I find that the best bottles under $20 usually come from Spain, Argentina, Italy and Chile. Also, a good trick to pairing that I've heard is that "if it grows together, it goes together." So, if I'm unsure about pairing, I usually try to match food with wine from the same region.

Thanks for the great recipes! I'm going to try the rice cooked as pasta thing...I generally try to avoid rice at all costs because I never know how to cook it correctly.

kelly - that cookbook looks neat - i didn't know it existed but happened to be in B&N yesterday (grrr...amazon just started charging sales tax in NY) for other reasons and checked it out. it definitely seems to make sense as a restaurant technique...I don't think i'll ever cook rice the "rice" way again...

murray - thanks...i had the whole "grows and goes" thing in my mind, and in this case, it definitely worked. try the rice...you won't regret it. No more still-too-hard-with-no-water left or nasty-mush-with-a-swamp-in-the-pot anymore!
