It looks amazing...I love pastry, specially if it's butter ridden. Now the pie / tart question - in England at least, I think a tart is without a lid and a pie is with lid.... might not be the same in the States, but I'd say this is a tart!

I LOVE the photo montage of all the stages in one photo....brilliant, clever and beautiful and the perfect solution!!!

Lovely photos and looks awesome as always. Small world - I am planning to make a savory pie of tomatoes and pesto tonight to go with a creamy artichoke soup. I did not think about the potential liquid problem from the tomato. The recipe does not mention it. I think I will roast them lightly salted as you suggest. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm keeping this recipe in mind when I come back from the farmer's market this weekend with my arms full of veggies! I'll be sure to tell my kids it's a candy pie though. :)

Cesca - I think you're right - a little digging around and the consensus seems to be that tarts are always open, and pies could be either but are often closed and are usually deeper. And there seems to be the unavoidable joke of "the difference between a pie and tart is that you can marry a tart"

Kelly - that sounds great - there's nothing like tomatoes and pesto, is there? That was the other thing, which I forgot to mention - I put the tomatoes at the furthest distance from the crust to help even more with the liquid.

LyB - Ha, sometimes I'm tempted to do something outrageous, like serve a candy sandwich for dinner or make a totally bizarre pie just to see what the reaction would be...what's the point of kids if you can't mess with them a little bit? :)

This looks SO yummy! My sister loves tomato pie and I know that she'll love this! Are these all CSA veggies? They look wonderful and tasty!

andrew

Hi Sarah - thanks! Some of them are CSA veggies and some of them are from our garden...maybe in a few years we'll have the garden big enough (and actually know what we're doing) to replace the CSA completely...we'll see...

Looks yummy did you try this one yet?

It was fabulous and a great way to use up that endless squash.

Josie - I hadn't seen that one, but it looks awesome...it's on the list now - I think we have all the ingredients at the moment too...hmm...
