This is so absolutely awesome! Really.

I guffawed and blushed at "hypnotic and a little inappropriate"

OK, I don't want to make the other commenters jealous but I was honestly going to write you about your beer today and found you posted the process of making it!

It was quite good Andrew. To be honest I just brought it up from the basement and drank it at that temp since I'm German and I don't like my beer ice cold. I found it to be excellent at that temperature and I must say gave me a very nice buzz only after one beer. (It didn't take me long to finish it.)

I agree with the dryness but I think the bitterness was just right. I'm sure it would have gotten better with age but I didn't have the patients! For a dark beer it really was smooth with a great aftertaste. I’m forgetting all the details I might have to try another one if you still have some left!

Good job! I think I am going to have to try this. Maybe we could do it together sometime so I don't screw up!

Alrighty, Andrew. I know you're in Western New York. Soooooo, I'll trade you some of that homemade beer for some homemade habanero crab apple jelly. Or a cheesecake. Or something. Anything. Puhleeeeze?

Amber

Wow. Best tutorial ever.

Seriously, my hat is off to you! Perhaps I will try this someday, but I don't see it happening any time soon. *sigh*

Enjoyed the post. I've made my own beer and experienced the same wonder and joy that you have found. However,It's not pasteurized so be prepared to refrigerate and then drink the 35 pints in a reasonable amount of time (4 to 6 weeks max?). You might want to split a batch with a friend. If you have a septic tank, do not pour any of the sanitizing liquid down the drain. It will kill the bacteria in the tank and may cost you big bucks. Na zdrowie!

I have finally gotten to try this myself after wanting to for so long time.

By the way. You are missed. One of the best foodrelated blogs that I know of.
